Bug Fix

Modern HBLR cards no longer split up trains

In Modern, HBLR trains going the same way could be spread across several cards when the destination name was written slightly differently. They're now shown together on one card, with the next 2 trains and the rest one tap away, the same as Classic.

  • HBLR trains in the same direction appear on one Modern card
  • Classic and other transit modes are unchanged
Bug Fix

Modern update toast no longer covers the page

In Modern, after a deploy, Update ready sat on top of Switch to Classic and the yellow alerts banner, so those couldn’t be tapped. The Modern toast, the new-look notice, and the alerts banner now sit in their own space. Classic still uses the floating Update ready overlay. Opening a Modern report confirm also hides the other report button so it does not peek out behind the bottom bar.

  • In Modern, Update ready sits in its own space and does not cover Switch to Classic
  • In Modern, the toast and the yellow alerts banner never overlap
  • Classic still uses the floating Update ready overlay
  • Opening Report police or Report crowding hides the other chip in Modern
  • Classic report buttons stay side by side
Improvement

Modern is the new default look

First-time visitors now land on the Modern UI. A one-time notice can switch you back to Classic, and Settings → UI style can change it anytime.

  • New visitors see Modern without a Classic flash
  • A marked Classic choice, including one stored only on your account, stays Classic
  • A one-time notice offers Switch to Classic
  • You can also switch back anytime in Settings → UI style
  • Dismissing the notice, or switching, keeps it from coming back
Bug Fix

Readable report confirm buttons

In Modern, Yes, report sighting and Yes, report crowding used white text on a pale mint button, so the confirm action was nearly invisible. Those buttons now use dark text on a solid fill, including while they submit.

  • Police and crowding confirm buttons stay readable in Modern
  • Disabled and loading confirm states keep the same contrast
  • Other light Modern buttons no longer inherit the page’s white text
  • Sign in on the header uses a darker green on the white chip
  • Classic confirm buttons stay the same
Bug Fix

Honest Live badge, toast, and footer

The Modern collapsed pill no longer stays green Live when arrivals are stale or failed. Update ready actually appears after a deploy, stays a compact toast under the nav, and the last footer links stay tappable above the phone pill.

  • Stale or failed Modern arrivals show the real status in the collapsed pill, not a green Live badge
  • The clock still appears next to Live when the feed is fresh
  • Update ready is a shorter toast that clears the first station card’s Report buttons
  • The last footer row stays above the phone pill in Classic and Modern
  • A new app version now shows Update ready once and reloads only once
Bug Fix

Phone bar and update banner fixes

My commute stays reachable when the bottom bar is collapsed, Modern uses one floating pill instead of two stacked bars, and Update ready is a small dismissible overlay that no longer hides the version on Spanish or Chinese.

  • My commute stays next to the chevron when the phone bar is collapsed
  • Modern’s PATH, Live, and clock sit in one pill that expands into the service picker
  • Report buttons and the footer stay reachable under the single pill
  • Update ready floats as a small toast you can dismiss for the rest of the session
  • Spanish and Chinese still show the version line on that toast
New Feature

Modern chrome, FAQ, and footer

The optional Modern UI now includes a live bottom bar, a dark FAQ card, a restyled footer, and dark closest-station and pinned panels. Classic stays the same except for the update banner no longer covering cards or showing a 1969 version date.

  • Modern shows a floating PATH pill with live date, time, and the 10-second refresh cadence
  • The FAQ, footer, closest-station, pinned, unlock, and replacement tiles use the dark Modern surface
  • Small text on line cards and the home subtitle now meet WCAG AA contrast
  • The Update ready banner no longer shows a 1969 version date or covers station cards
  • My commute is the first chip in the service picker for signed-in riders, and Customize cannot hide or move it
New Feature

Modern station cards

The optional Modern UI now shows live station arrivals as color-filled line cards with minute tiles. Classic station cards stay exactly as they are.

  • Modern stations show a small area label and a large station name
  • Report police and Report crowding are rounded chips with shield and people icons
  • Each PATH line is a color-filled card with the next trains as live minute tiles
  • Times stay live; nothing is labeled scheduled
  • Classic station cards look the same as before
New Feature

Choose Classic or Modern UI

Settings now has a UI style choice. Classic is today's Timli look and stays the default. Modern is an optional transit-style theme you can turn on.

  • Settings includes a UI style choice: Classic or Modern
  • Classic is the default and looks the same as today
  • Modern is saved on this device, and in your account when you sign in
  • The Modern look starts with the new page background and type; station cards come next
Improvement

PATH rows use a train icon

PATH arrival rows now show a generic train icon tinted in the line color, so Hoboken and Journal Square trains are easier to tell apart at a glance.

  • Each PATH train row uses a small train icon in that line’s color
  • The icon is a generic train, not the official PATH mark
  • Hoboken (WTC–HOB) and Journal Square rows read as trains, not colored dots
  • Screen readers still skip the icon because the destination already names the line
